A Beginning for U20 7s Program
A Beginning for U20 7s Program
Among the 7s teams that could be attending the Halloween 7s in Florida is a Men’s Junior All Americans 7s team under the coaching of Paul Holmes and David Fee.
The first assembly under this new program finished up last week, and Head Coach Holmes said that it’s a beginning, at least.
“It was a bit rushed, but I think the camp was important,” said Holmes, who worked with a variety of young college players and high school players who were able to get away from other obligations.
“We had some players who are athletic, but still need to learn more about the game,” said Holmes. “And it was a new experience for some of them to be in camp alongside the senior national players and see what it takes to play at this level.”
There will be more. This won’t be a one-off assembly, and Holmes, along with MJAA program director Scott Lawrence, is eager to provide players with some detail of the opportunities. Holmes will hold some sort of assembly in Texas, New York, the Carolinas, Southern California, and the Midwest. And there will be competitive opportunities. Holmes mentioned Halloween, the Las Vegas Invitational, and RugbyTown 7s in Glendale, Colo., and, he said, they are looking for something overseas, too.
This, as Holmes said, is a start.
