AIC is hosting the Armory 7s Sunday in Springfield, Mass. This is the third USA Championship qualifier of the weekend, and features some well-regarded teams.
The hosts are likely the favorites, while Dartmouth certainly will provide a stern test.
Dartmouth Head Coach Gavin Hickie will not be able to call on USA 7s team captain Madison Hughes, and leaves a couple of other players behind, but said his squad is very strong and this tournament is a key part of Dartmouth’s buildup to the CRC.
AIC, meanwhile, is looking at qualifying for the USA tournament in Denver, and will run out as strong a side as possible - the Yellow Jackets were runners up at the LVI tournament, the prize for which was a trip to the CRC. Instead, Arkansas State is going to Chester, Pa., and AIC wants to go to Denver for the USA tournament. AIC joins Dartmouth, Middlebury (always a challenge), Albany, and Fairfield in a tough Pool A. Pool B features Northeastern, UMass, Colgate, Fairfield II, and the newest-named CRC team, Boston College.
Pool A seems, at first glance, to be the much tougher pool. The top two teams from each pool will make the semis.
