AFA, CSU Heads Rocky Mountain 7s
Air Force Academy and Colorado State headline the Rocky Mountain 7s tournament this weekend in Fort Collins, Colo.
This is a qualifier for the USA Rugby College 7s Championships, and could be the site of several upsets.
CSU and Air Force are in the middle of some 15s seriousness, and so might want to rest some players. That leaves the door open for the likes of Grand Canyon - a young, athletic team that has played quite a bit of 7s this season - and University of Colorado. Perhaps the team that is a true dark horse is Colorado College, which is a talented DII program and could shock the bigger-profile teams this weekend.
Air Force is already in the CRC but has shown an interest in the USA tournament as well. The Zoomies lost a close game in the LVI tournament and has to be considered one of the stronger 7s in the country. Ben Bermester, a hooker in 7s and a hard-worker all over the field, is, if healthy, an important player for them.
Garrett Jameson is a big, powerful prop and Victor Wu is the field general at halfback. Both are excellent leaders.
But they will be tested this weekend, but remain favorites.
