USA v New Zealand a Sellout
USA v New Zealand a Sellout
USA Rugby has announced that the USA v. New Zealand test match at Soldier Field Nov 1 has sold out.
Additional seats for the event were put on sale two weeks ago and they all sold out. According to USA Rugby, the highest attendance for an international rugby union match in the United States was USA v. Ireland on Houston in 2013 - 20,181. According to USA Sevens LLC, the attendance for the Saturday action at the USA 7s in Las Vegas has topped 30,000. The November USA v All Blacks game will more than double those numbers.
“It’s been a while since we’ve hosted the All Blacks and I think you can tell with this sell out,” USA Rugby Chief Executive Officer Nigel Melville said. “The USA is growing as a rugby nation both on and off the field; I know the atmosphere in Soldier Field will be electric. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the global game of rugby to American sports fans at an iconic football stadium in Chicago and across the country via a live NBC broadcast.”
Fans without tickets can still experience rugby fever in Chicago during the week of the match. A Rookie Rugby Festival, organized by AIG, the Illinois Youth Rugby Association, and USA Rugby, will be held in Jackson Park Saturday, Oct. 25. More than 30,000 kids in Chicago have been introduced to the flag version of the sport with AIG’s Rugby in a Box initiative, and they will demonstrate what they have learned with each other.
“We are thrilled, albeit not surprised, by the official sell-out,” AIG Global Head of Sponsorship Daniel Glantz said. “As an Official Partner of both the USA and New Zealand sides we are excited for this milestone for the sport of rugby here in the U.S.”
