HS Nationals Sign Hooligan, Tsunami To Deal
The Boys High School National Championship committee is pleased to announce a partnership with Hooligan Rugby and Tsunami for their 2018 event. The tournament will again be held at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, MO on May 17-18-19, 2018.
The new partnership will place Hooligan Rugby (Olathe, KS) as the sole rugby vendor at the boys championship. Hooligan and Tsunami have agreed to supply full kit for the referee pool, game balls and three sets of Tsunami jerseys. The jerseys will be awarded by the committee and Hooligan staff to three teams that display exceptional rugby sportsmanship, travel with impressive fan support, and frankly represent the game well on and off the field. They may or may not be the ultimate winners of the event, but will have proven to be winners of the rugby culture.
DC Elite Finish Fall Sevens Series Winning 2 of 3 Tournaments
After a successful sweep of the Maryland Exiles Halloween Sevens, DC Elite returned again to play in the MedStar Great Falls Rugby Sevens Tournament.
More players returned after finishing fall sports and a few were lost to their winter teams. However, the squad ran comfortably through Maryland Exiles, West End (Virginia) and Bethesda Roosters scoring a total of 27 tries in pool play and the first round of the knock out match.
They went on to face a similarly impressive Legion (Virginia) team in the finals. DC Elite opened the scoring quickly in the first half and went on to lead 22-0 at half through tries from Horrigan, Sessings, Tuckson and Zaudtke. However, two yellow cards in the second half proved too much for DC to defend as they were beaten by a try on the last play of the match to lose 22-25.
SoCal Red Division Preview - Repeats and New Threats
The Champion for the Southern California Red Division takes home the Titan Shield, signifying the best high school rugby team in Southern California.
Last year Torrey Pines beat La Costa Canyon 38-27 in the final, avenging their league matchup, which saw LCC prevail on a last minute converted try. Torrey Pines defeated Mira Costa in overtime in the hard fought semi-final, and those three schools look to be near the top again.
Torrey Pines returns a host of starters, particularly in the back line. Scrumhalf Beau Morgans returns, as does always exciting Center Matt Goena, who had two tries in last year's final. Perhaps even more valuable to the Falcons' effort is the return of last year's freshman phenom Oren Cargill, who looks to assume flyhalf duties.

Utah HS 7s Season Concludes
Heading in to the Rugby Utah 2017 Fall 7s season, one would assume that 3-time defending champion Herriman would begin the year as favorites; after all, the Mustangs are the only team to ever win the Utah Fall 7s series, and had dropped only two contests in the past three fall seasons.
DC Elite Defense and Balance Wins Halloween 7s

The team returned seven juniors from the summer JV RCT squad hailing from local Jesuit rivals Gonzaga and Georgetown Prep but added Gonzaga juniors Joe Royston, Gordan McMillan, Tim Sessings, Gonzaga seniors Will Lyke and Ian Kilkullen and Prep's Mitchell.

Cumberland Valley Hosts Sunday HS 7s
Cumberland Valley HS is hosting a 7s tournament Sunday in Pennsylvania.
The tournament features several well-regarded HS rugby programs, giving newer players and athletes who don't play football some extra rugby time. Cumberland Valley will enter three teams, and so will LaSalle. Here is the schedule:
EIRA Holding Academy Session Oct 15
The EIRA Mid-Atlantic Regional Academy launches it’s 2017/2018 coaching season on October 15th at Gonzaga (in DC) with a Training Session for Coaches from 10:00am – 1:00pm followed by a Player Talent ID Clinic from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
We are pleased to announce that we are adding Girls rugby to the program this year
The Training Session for Coaches will be in a classroom that Gonzaga have kindly made available and will be open for all coaches in the Mid-Atlantic region (Virginia, Maryland, DC, Pennsylvania and Delaware). The Coaching course will generally deal with stuff that will be coached in the afternoon and will include coaching standards and best practices, catch/pass, contact skills, decision making and defense.
North Bay Caps Off HS 7s Summer
In the final sevens tournament in the Mid-Atlantic Region the Maryland Exiles finally got the result they have been looking for against North Bay winning 27-14 in the final. North Bay has been the top team in summer sevens this year with Head Coach Marty Maurice leading his team to first place finishes at Cowpie Sevens, Philly Cheese Steak Sevens and Splash Sevens.
The venue at UMBC was perfect and drew 12 teams that ranged from private MIAA Catholic High Schools to multi-school clubs.
The Maryland Exiles, who draw from public schools in Montgomery County, had a bumpy road to the finals defeating Calvert Hall and West Carroll in close games and losing to North Bay in their bracket. In their semifinal game with Howard County, the Exiles squeaked by 21-14.
