Massive Second Half Sees Okapi To Florida State Title
The Okapi Wanderers put a solid stamp on their regular season with a 53-3 victory over the Jacksonville Wolverines in the Florida U19 league final.
It was perhaps one of Okapi's best showings of the season, one which has seen them win 18 straight games in Florida league play over the past two years.
It was a tighter first half and while Okapi felt they had scoring chances, they didn't execute on all of them. Jacksonville's strong runners put Okapi under some pressure and the teams changed ends with the Wanderers up 13-3.
But Okapi went into the second half feeling like they knew what they had to do.
"We started capitalizing on the the scoring opportunities we had," said Okapi Head Coach Juan Orfila.
The result was a six-try performance in the second half and a 53-3 final score, capping off a fine team performance.
Hooker and captain Nano Fernández has been outstanding all season and he was the leader of the Okapi defense. Center Bauti Rush also defended well while his midfield partner, Romulo Sotomayor, and fullback Agustin Mujica sparked the Okapi attack.
The Wanderers now look ahead to a first-ever appearance at the HS National Tournament.
