Men D2 College Rankings 2021 Week 2
We warned you that there would be major changes in the rankings in the opening weeks, and so, yes, this week, Week 2, we have major changes.
First off, we feel unhappy about having to drop out Shippensburg, UW-Platteville, Thomas More, and William Paterson. Their only crime, really, is not having played when others played. Expect to see these teams come back.
Penn State Squeaks Past Mary Washington
Penn State eked out a 28-26 victory over Mary Washington in a preseason game for both teams.
This was the inaugural Sheehy Cup created as a challenge match between the two programs.
MAC Latest: BGSU, Louisville, WMU, UC
The Mid-American Conference got going this weekend with favored teams victorious.
As has been the case throughout the country, questions remain about which teams can get the numbers to compete. The MAC has started well in that regard with teams able to make their commitments.
Big 10 Latest: Illinois, Indiana
The Big Ten got going this weekend with Illinois playing Purdue and Indiana facing off against Wisconsin.
Despite the turmoil in their leadership somewhat, IU played some solid rugby and shut out Wisconsin 65-0. The Badgers worked hard and it's early days for them, but this was a very good start for Indiana.
Defensive Stand Sees Iowa State Past Iowa
Iowa State held off University of Iowa 18-10 in a tense Heart of America conference game Saturday.
The Cyclones secured an early 15-0 lead but after that was under a lot of pressure from Iowa. Seeing one player get two yellow cards, and thus being shorthanded throughout the second half, didn’t help.
