Gonzaga won the Gonzaga Classic and did so in fairly emphatic style, defeating Fort Hunt 45-3 in the championship game.
Tempe took it to Red Mountain to win the Arizona Boys HS D1 state championship Saturdaym defeating their longtime rivals 64-12.
The setting couldn’t have been better for another chapter of the intense rivalry game, with beautiful weather, perfect green grass pitch (not normal for AZ), and everything on the line for the state championship.
Pelham HS out of New York defeated Morris out of New Jersey Saturday in a meeting of the #46 school team (Pelham) and the #48 club (Morris).
The Pelham backs had a very good day with scrumhalf Michael Sample providing quick service and helping the threequarters exploit space. Among those beneficiaries was wing Alejandro Beneventa.
St. Ignatius won their big rivalry game with St. Edward in Cleveland, with the #1-ranked Wildcats taking on the #20 Eagles.
The game was played in front of a crowd of at least 2,000 as this is the big high school sports rivalry in the city, with these two teams carrying a proud rugby tradition and being only a short drive from each other.
The top four in the Gonzaga tournament are Gonzaga, Vienna, Aspetuck, and Fort Hunt.
The games were held at Sega Stadium, the home of the DC Old Glory MLR team, along with two fields outside the stadium in the sports park in Leesburg, Va.
