Nine players got their first USA Men’s 15s caps last weekend, and it’s always nice to combine a debut with a victory.
But that doesn’t mean it’s easy. While Chris Mattina has been on the world sevens circuit and Tomamso Boni has played 11 times for Italy, so they understand what it takes to play internationally, it’s a wakeup call for most.

Mae Sagapolu and Lewis Gray received their Washington Athletic Club trophies Saturday at a Gala event in Seattle as they were recognized as the two best collegiate rugby players in the country.
Lewis Gray Wins 2023 Rudy Scholz Award
US Naval Academy center Lewis Gray has been named the 2023 Rudy Scholz Award winner as the best men’s collegiate rugby player of the 2022-2023 season.
Gray has been the scoring leader and emotional leader of the team in its 18-0 run to a national D1A championship, capped by Saturday’s 28-22 defeat of Cal.
Finalists for Rudy Scholz Award Named
The finalists for the 2022-2023 Rudy Scholz Award have been selected.
With a massive help from the fans and the teams in college rugby, who help vote for these finalists, the nominee list was whittled down to a finalist group of five players.
