Woodlands Shuts Out Strake Jesuit
Woodlands shut out Strake Jesuit 27-0 Thursday night in Rugby Texas action.
The teams actually played three games, with Woodlands JV winning 52-7, and their D2 teams playing a bit of battle that saw the teams enter halftime tied 0-0. Woodlands ended up holding off Strake in that one 19-12.
In the D1 Varsity match, the Woodlands defense continued its solid form. But Strake held on tenaciously as well, holding up Woodlands no fewer than four times to keep both teams scoreless. Then 37 minutes into the game Zane Smith powered over for the first of his three tries.
Building on this momentum, Ethan Marx added to the score nine minutes later for a 12-0. Smith went over for another, which Neel Menon converted. Menon then added a penalty before Smith capped off the scoring at 60 minutes.
The match was played under challenging weather conditions, with intermittent rain making handling difficult for both teams, resulting in numerous knock-ons. Despite the weather and tremendous pressure from Strake Jesuit, Woodlands Rugby demonstrated resilience and skill throughout the night of intense rugby action at Strake Jesuit.
