Wildcats Down Buffaloes
The University of Arizona defeated the University of Colorado 56-12 in an impressive display at the Las Vegas Invitational this past weekend.
With the Wildcats looking to garner some support for a DIA playoff position, this game was as important as any conference game.
The Wildcats took an early lead with a penalty kick from flyhalf Kyle Rogers, but then started to run in the tries - two from flanker Ryan Fitzpatrick and one impressive run from halfway by win Adam Wilson.
Scrumhalf Jonah Eldridge and then flanker am Peri set up hooker Steven Branham. That made for a 32-0 lead for the Wildcats at the break. In the second half, wing Dante Weeks and prop Mason Pedersen answered a Colorado try to make it 42-5.
Then lock Sean Coleman powered in, and fullback Jack San Pietro scored to finish it off.
Head Coach Sean Duffy was pleased. “We’re happy with the performance,” said the coach. “We’ve got some momentum now having beaten ASU and CU and we hope to carry that in to this week against Notre Dame.”
Duffy praised Ryan Fitzpatrick, Adam Wilson, and Jack San Pietro, who were added to the lineup for the game, calling them highly coachable and “responsive to everything we are sending their way and with all three being freshmen. It's a great sign for the future, not just in the coming years but in this stretch run of the Fifteens season that we hope will include a playoff berth.”
Next up for Arizona, they travel to Stanford University to meet Notre Dame in the annual Parseghian Cup match, with proceeds benefiting the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation.
