Wheeling Jesuit Edges Delaware

Wheeling Jesuit defeated Delaware 29-20 Friday night in a non-conference game for both.

It was a good day for WJU, which started with three tries in the first 20 minutes.

“We’ve had an issue with slow starts so it was good get started the way we did,” said WJU Head Coach Tal Bayer. “The guys did a good job after a six-and-a-half-hour bus ride.”

Killian Gause, making only his second start of the season, scores, and Dom Piazza, also scored. Captain Zach Reichenbach was outstanding and kept the team together when they were a man down due to a yellow card.

For Maryland, captain Chris Mattina scored two tries, while prop Matt Hess, flyhalf Tommy Abram, and flanker Michael Gorman played well in a tight game.

“Delaware is a good side,” said Bayer. “They are physical, and aggressive. It was a good game for us, chippy, and a gut win for us.”
