Teams interested in the Boys HS Rugby National Championships will be able to apply in early January.
This is a heads up for teams to get their ducks in a row to apply for one of the 24 spots at the event.
The 2025 Boys HS Rugby National Championships will be May 22, 23, and 24 (Thursday through Saturday) and will be held at the Moose Rugby Grounds in Elkhart, Ind.
Twenty-four teams will be invited to the 2025 HSNC based on their 2024-25 record and historical success. The top eight seeds among invited single-school teams will be seeded into the Single-School bracket; the top eight seeds among invited HS club teams will be seeded into the HS Club bracket; the remaining eight teams will compete in the Tier II bracket.
In 2024, Gonzaga College High School won the Single-School championship, Charlotte Cardinals won the HS Club championship, and the San Mateo Wolverines won the Tier II championship.
Why Apply?
If you are on the fence about applying, you should apply. Why? Well the reasons to not go are things such as: turns out the funding isn't there; you're not having as good a season as you expected; you have sustained injuries that hurt your depth. All of these are very legitimate reasons not to attend the HS National Championships.
But if those things happen, you can always retract your application or inform the Boys HS Rugby National Championships Committee that you don't want to be invited.
Now think of it from the other perspective. What if the funding is there and you have good depth and your team is having a maybe unexpectedly great season. If you haven't applied, and it's past the deadline, then you can't apply late. So it's better to apply and then take it back later than to not apply and wish you had.
What You'll Be Expected to Know
Invitation Only?
While some teams are straight-up invited, based mostly on their historical success, some teams or regions are invited based on local results. The HSNC might even request two teams schedule a game with the winner getting an invitation (and the losing team still in the mix). So there are play-in scenarios each year.
