The Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference got a nice little shakeup with Saturday's results, as previously 2-0 Western Washington was upended 10-0 by the University of Washington.

The Husky may not have brought too much offensive firepower, but they played tough defense against a WWU team had already beaten Oregon and Western Oregon.

"The defense was good," said UW Coach Kevin Swiryn. "We have a long ways to go, but we made up for it with a mix of grit and work rate. WWU missed an easy kick and had an unlucky knock-on at the tryline, which would've changed the entire match."

Neither team was able to score in the second half.

"I am proud of our young guys for playing a tough 80 minutes against a big, physical, and well-drilled opponent," said Swiryn. "WWU is going to be that much better in playoffs so we have a lot of work to do to keep up."

Meanwhile, Oregon were pushed by Western Oregon but prevailed 25-15, Central Washington cruched Boise State 96-3, and Washington State moved to 1-1 with a 20-7 defeat of Eastern Washington.

With these results, CWU moves into 1st place, where they will probably stay. But Washington laid down a bit of a marker Saturday with their result, and it looks as though the spots 2-4 for the playoffs are anything but settled.
