USA U20 Women Coach Will Snape Talks Skills at Atavus Camp
USA U20 Women's Head Coach Will Snape said he is starting to see better skilled players trying out for the team.
With a Can-Am Series set for 2017, Snape is looking for a new batch of players for this year for the U20s - which is also sponsored by Atavus. Snape spoke with Goff Rugby Report's Alex Goff at a recent Atavus / US Rugby Academy camp in SeaTac, Wash. Snape was one of several top-level coaches, including Emilie Bydwell, Shalom Suniula, and Shawn Pittman, working with the players on skills, decision-making, and game awareness.
"It's great for me as the U20s coach to get to work with the younger women in the area," said Snape. "We're just bring in some of the concepts that players need to kind of progress to the national level. But all of these skills are really applicable to all of the levels."
Snape also said that players who aspire to higher honors have to do extra work on their own. Often, he said, that means looking for rugby opportunities - even touch rugby, or participating in another team's fitness sessions.
