In what has been a busy summer for USA national teams, the Boys U18s kick off their second visit to the Corendon Summer Tour in the Netherlands.
The U18s will play Belgium at 7AM Eastern Time (Netherlands is six hours ahead). Netherlands will play Canada three-and-a-half hours later.
The games will be live-streamed on EyeCons with the direct link here>>
Head Coach Dom Wareing has named San Diego Mustangs / Torrey Pines HS flyhalf Jonty Lee as the gameday captain. Lee will work with his regular San Diego Mustangs halfback in Spencer Huntley.
Several players who led their teams to high national finishes are on this squad. HS Club Championship MVP Max Amasio is loosehead prop, and he is bolstered by his teammate Elijah Lolesio Pua at outside center. Flanker Maseah Young and wing Pdraig Long were on the Xavier HS team that beat St. Ignatius for 3rd, but now they and multi-skilled fullback Ryan Putka will be teammates.
Defensively this is potentially a very strong group with Gonzaga flanker Andrew LaFrankie, Putka, and Black Rock College's Connor Nel leading the way. This U18 Eagles team has some unique ways to test defenses, too, with a solid kicking game from Lee and Putka, plenty of talent out wide, and thundering runners in Amasio and No. 8 Papa Matelau.
Sebastian Menges is a late addition to the squad after Cmaron Wilson picked up an injury while playing with the Eagle Impact Rugby Academy team in Spain. Menges's moth is from the US but he lives and plays in Germany. The 6-5, 240-pound lock has played for Germany's U18s (which doesn't commit him to anything) and was brought in as cover in the second row.
