Is there a correlation between what's happening with high school football in some states and what's happening in high school rugby?

Really, it's too early to tell. There is isn't Fall 7s in every state, and often it seems that the states where HS football is serious business also seem to be states where rugby doesn't quite have as much traction as you'd hope (with some exceptions, such as Texas).

So we do see a number of states where the football season is going on as planned but that doesn't affect rugby because there's not a lot of rugby there.

Below we try to list what every state is doing, thanks to some online research and with help from a piece by Jeff Fisher at High School Football America.

In the list below, NA means Not Applicable, which generally means either the state doesn't have much in the way of HS rugby at all, or doesn't play fall 7s among high school teams. We are looking at HS 7s in total, boys and girls, but clearly football has more influence on boys rugby in terms of player availability.

What we are seeing is that some states are more caution about activating rugby even as football is starting somewhat normally.

We could see fall 7s in Utah, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Idaho, with one or two other states perhaps getting something in late in the fall.

Meanwhile, seven states have moved football to the spring, with another, Virginia, perhaps canceling it altogether.

Here's the list.
