Three Teams Through to NCR DI Semis
St. Bonaventure pushed aside Mary Washington to make the NCR Men’s DI semifinals, taking another huge step in one of the college’s best seasons.
Penn State came back to defeat Brown in dramatic fashion 27-26. Brown led 26-15 late but a try from lock and captain Campbell Halloran, and a try from Tristan Summerville, with one Dan Musselman conversions, nudged the Nittany Lions ahead 27-26.
And Queens University won via forfeit over Northeastern. Those teams will move on to the semis, as will the winner of Sunday’s clash between Kutztown and Iona.
Bonnies Powers Through
Keelin Coyle opened the scoring for Bonaventure with a penalty goal and midway through the first half it was still just 3-0. But then Lukas Otineru powered over and with Coyle's conversion it was 10-0. Sy Mendenhall and Cory Ratka added first-half tries and it was 25-0 at halftime. Mendenhall, a freshman who was getting notice with his play for Dallas Jesuit just this past spring, scored his second in the second half and Sebastiano Villani also touched down.
“We just needed to settle into our game to get things going. Once we made some positive tackles and got into our system, things changed and we started to make some carries they couldn’t handle and we started capitalizing on their mistakes,” said St. Bonaventure Head Coach Tui Osborne.
