Three Players Added to USA Camp
The USA MNT has been waiting for Saracens to notify them if Titi Lamositele to be made available, but injuries in the front row at that pro club has meant that the USA prop will remain in the UK, for now.
Lamositele could conceivably be available to play for the USA against Chile, but it depends on injuries at Saracens.
Meanwhile, the USA has injury issues, too, with Bruce Thomas and Matt Trouville hurt. And seeing as Cam Dolan and Greg Peterson are back to their pro clubs, the Eagles have a big need at lock/flanker. So they have brought in Aaron Davis, Cameron Falcon, and Nate Brakeley. Falcon, a former HS All American when he was with Archbishop Shaw in New Orleans, was slated to come into camp later in the month, but the former LSU flanker is needed now. Davis and Brakeley are new names. Brakeley was an All American at Dartmouth. The 6-5 lock is a tough player who also suited up for Cambridge University, earning a Blue for that school.
Aaron "Spike" Davis played football at SMU and then took up rugby when a friend, Alex Elkins, suggested he try it. He has said in interviews that he basically fell in love with the game right then. Davis looks to be a loose forward. He has been training at Tiger Academy in Columbus, Ohio. His coach at Tiger, Paul Holmes, said of Davis: "The one thing I know about Aaron he is an extremely hard worker if he’s put in an environment to learn he will learn quickly.”
The USA team has been training at St. Pius X High School in Houston, and will do some work with the USA U20 team on Wednesday.
"The people we've met at the hotel have been fantastic," USA Head Coach John Mitchell said in an interview with USA Rugby.. "It's amazing the people you come across in the lifts being intrigued about what sport we play and to see the eyes light up knowing there's an international contest in their city. St. Pius X has wonderful facilities and has been accommodating with the morning and afternoon sessions. I haven't seen high school gym equipment like that before in my life – it's wonderfully resourced in that area. We've had some Austin club players that have been released to come and fill numbers for us on our full-field, full-team training sessions."
