Strake Jesuit opened up Varsity Cup District play with a 76-0 road win over HCYA.

Junior fullback Sam Grissom made his varsity debut and scored two tries, a tally matched by center Nick Starling. Thee other players making their first varsity appearance scoredÚ wing Sam Mahoney, flanker Miller Leslie, and prop Henry Sovany, as Strake ran out to a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised.

It was a nice showing considering the actual season opener, against Jesuit New Orleans, was called off last weak due to the winter storm that hit much of the nation.

Veteran No. 8 Felipe Edbrooke scored a try, center Paolo added six points with three conversions, and flyhalf Fran Moretti ran things nicely and added 13 points on a try and four converisons.

Scrumhalf Gabo del Olmo had a big game for Strake, and flanker Tony Fernandez had several breakaways to set up tries for others while also being a terror in the breakdown. Lock Nicholas Nedwed stole six lineouts, making set-piece launch very difficult for HCYA.

The weather remains an issue in Texas, and contenders such as Dallas Jesuit and St. Thomas had their games canceled.
