Stanford Women Win Invitational
Stanford Women Win Invitational
The Stanford Women were almost untouchable defensively as they swept through the 2015 Stanford Women’s Collegiate Invitational this weekend, going 5-0 and shutting out all but one opponent.
Throughout the tournament Stanford demonstrated a strong and committed defensive front, conceding only 12 points, and those points coming after almost 200 minutes of shutout rugby. The offense was clicking, too, with senior flyhalf Nikki Richardson leading an attack that netted 117 points in five shortened games.
On Saturday, Stanford shut out Western Washington, Oregon, and UC San Diego to win their pool. UC Davis won their pool with a big win over UCLA and tight victories over Chico State and Cal.
That set up the semifinals on Sunday. Stanford shut out Cal 15-0, while Davis were edged by UC San Diego.
Stanford then beat UCSD 26-12 to win the tournament. UC Davis shut out Cal 20-0 to take 3rd.
Oregon beat Chico State in the consolation semis, and Western Washington defeated UCLA in the other semi.
