In something of a shock result, St. Bonaventure won handily over #1-ranked Brown 51-7 in NCR's D1AA quarterfinals.

Bonnies winning wasn't the shock—it was in the cards, certainly—but winning by 44 was not expected.

But Head Coach Danny Neighbour had faith.

"We are back to full strength and we've been very focused on specific areas at training the last two to three weeks," said the St. Bonaventure coach. "One being our approach to everything we do. That was to fix the slow starts we've had. Last week was a lot better in that department and this week was even more so."

The SBU players needed no prompting. Their games with Brown have been very close in recent years, so they understood that being precise mattered.

"We know they are a tough and well-coached team with some really talented players, but we believed we had the game plan and the fire power to turn them over this year," continued Neighbour.

"Mix that with the heartbreak of losing in the semis last year in the last two minutes and you have a recipe for a hungry squad that wanted nothing more than that type of performance."

Look back on St. Bonaventure's win over Wheeling, from halftime of that game through their play-in with Thomas More they outscored opopnents 80-17. Neighbour felt they were peaking at the right time.

"Others seem to not rate us but I believe we have proven to be a team that will always be in the conversation and that can beat anyone on their day," he said. "I'm just so pleased for the lads; to see their hard work and dedication to what the staff asks of them is so satisfying. They are a pleasure to coach and to be around. Again so much credit goes to everyone in our staff that is so dedicated to getting the lads ready each week. Couldn't do it without them."
