Rugby Northeast’s leading team got a bit of a shakeup as Southern Connecticut defeated Bentley 14-5 Saturday.

The result confirmed what Bentley Coach Brian Pendergast said last week and reiterated after Saturday’s game - “Southern Connecticut is the best team in the league and they proved it again.”

It was a defensive battle - physical and aggressive. SoConn wing Sean Grenier intercepted a pass at the beginning of the second half to score his team’s first try. Then wing Niko Stefanatos scored a late try to seal it. Flyhalf Dylan Carroll made both conversions.

With the result, Bentley dropped to 6-1, the same record as Southern Connecticut. The door is now open for Providence College, which sits 6-0 and plays UMass-Lowell on Sunday.
