SoCal Varsity White Weekend Preview
This weekend's Southern California Varsity White league got an early start as Wilson HS moved to 3-0 with a defeat of new program Saint Anthony.
Wilson handled a physically large and powerful Saint Anthony team with a solid defensive effort.
"I was really pleased with a big defensive effort from the whole team," said Wilson Coach Tony Balasuriya. "They were huge but our guys handled it."
Roberto Hernandez, Ewan Scott, and Shawn Winston led a good offensive effort, while the strong defense should be credited to the whole team, however Ryan Dawgiewicz and freshman Ethan Moxly stepped up nicely.
With the win, Wilson is 3-0 and is in control of the LA division.
Coming up this weekend, in the Orange County division, Dana Hills, 0-1 but thanks to a really close one, takes on 1-0 San Juan. The other 1-0 team, Tritons, will take on a very good St. John Bosco team in a non-league game. But the game to watch may well be Los Alamitos in the team's first league outing, against Servite. Los Alamitos could well challenge for the division.
In San Diego North, Carlsbad is 3-0 and takes on 0-1 Rancho Bernardo. San Pasqual, at 2-1, faces 0-1 Mission Vista.
And in San Diego South, University City and Mira Mesa are 3-0 and both have games against lower-ranked teams (1-1 Westview and 0-2 La Jolla, respectively).
