Showdown Time in Florida DIAA
Showdown Time in Florida DIAA
Four DIAA college teams will meet up in Houston during CRAA's championship weekend, but before that happens we need to know who will meet whom.
We know the top two from the California DIAA Conference, since Sacramento State beat Fresno State in the conference final last week.
Late Surge Sees Sacramento State Past Fresno State
We know the top two in the Florida DIAA, but not which is #1 and which is #2. Florida State will take on South Florida in Manatee, Fla. on Saturday.
These two teams played back in January 21. In that matchup South Florida defeated Florida State 25-19. However, that result was vacated and it became a 20-0 forfeit win for FSU because USF inadvertently fielded an inelligible player.
That result had its ramifications because it meants that FSU got a bye into the semifinals not USF.
But we have the rematch now about three months later. FSU's tough, strong forward pack will face USF's wide open attack. Is that an over-simplification? Maybe, but if points are flowing, the Bulls might well be responsible. If the game because more of a chess match, the Seminoles might be the ones moving the pieces.
Florida State is led by the try-scoring touch of Sam Williams (eight tries in conference play) and Ethan Frisch (three tries in the semifinals). they have several players who can kick for points, which is a nice thing to have.
For USF, they lean on one guy for that, and center Michael Burrell is it, as well as being an effective try-scorer too. Burrell has 101 points in the seven games after that opener. That's a pretty good clip.
