The SFGG men’s club soundly defeated St. Mary’s College of California in a preseason warmup for both teams.
SFGG overpowered the Gaels, especially in the first half, as they led 38-0 at halftime.
“We had a pretty decent showing after halftime,” said St. Mary’s Head Coach Tim O’Brien. “SFGG is very good. They were very physical and absolutely relentless when capitalizing off turnovers.”
O’Brien said the game was a good learning experience for a team that is dealing with several position changes for some of its players.
“We are dealing with some interesting growing pains,” said O’Brien. “This was a great game with great opponents.”
Also Saturday, the St. Mary’s JV team lost to the Vacaville men’s club in a wild game that saw the two teams combine for more than 100 points.
