Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota will be meeting in the Green Bay area for a three-team Boys select-side series on July 16.
The mini tournament is a huge thing for Iowa as that state only plays 7s in their regular high school season. There has been a push within Iowa to promote 15s rugby in some form and the Iowa Selects is a key starting points. Coaches, led by Casey hansen, have had to work hard to bolster their tight five, but succeeded in getting a team on the field to play Minnesota this past weekend in a trial match.
In that trial match the Banshees Rugby Academy of Minnesota beat the Iowa Selects 45-31. But this was just the beginning for both teams as they tested players and built their rosters.
Iowa has about 40 players they are working through to confirm for this coming weekend, while Minnesota's Coach Chad Augeson has confirmed some of his roster:
Trajan Mussehl - Becker HS; Najee Davon Brown-Gray - Hopkins HSA; Charlie Whear - Edina HS; Sam Dodd - Minnetonka HS; Jason Boren - South River Rugby; Gage Curry - Edina HS; Seth Beil - Minnetonka HS; Alex Baccoli - Eagan HS; Kenneth Braman - Edina HS; Sam Weinhaus - Eagan HS; Jack Poston - Minnetonka HS; Liam McVety - South River Rugby; Joe Goth - Becker HS; Ryan Boecker - Becker HS; Noah Moss - Edina HS; Brendan Ketelson - South River Rugby; Roman West - South River Rugby; Jakob Brininger - Minnetonka HS; Riley Young - Minnetonka HS; Joey McBain - Minnetonka HS.
