San Diego State University is looking for a new Head Coach for Men's Rugby.
Ryan Matyas, who was Head Coach last season, has had to step away due to family commitments, however he is remaining with the program to assist with the coaching transition. The remains a solid group of assistants, Matyas told GRR, however they aren't able to lead the team due to a variety of commitments, as well.
Last year Matyas oversaw the first step in a road to improvement for the Aztecs. In 2024-25 100% of player dues were paid, which is an important milestone, and they developed a committed, goal-aligned player group that found significant improvement on the field.
The Head Coach will be paid a part-time stipend and will operate under the supervision of the Competitive Sports Coordinator at SDSU. The Head Coach's job will be to coordinate operations for 15s and 7s, including practice planning, game-day coaching, and development for the individual players and the team as a whole.
