SacAir out of Northern California took a trip to Utah and came away with plenty of respect, and a 1-1 record.

SacAir opened the trip with a game of four 20-minute quarters against Layton Christian Academy.

This was a back-and-forth match and SacAir won 41-40.

In their opener, Cavemen defeated Sac Air 56-19. Outside center Mason Tapusoa scored two tries for the American Fork side, with single tries scored by locks Dalin Afu and Latu Moeai, props Jaybian Na'a and Briggs Love, and backs Ben Iongi and Aiseah Hafoka.

Luke Vernon was a perfect 8-for-8 in his conversion kicks. Tapusoa was the top back for Cavemen and Dalin Afu was the top forward.

Against LCA SacAir had a quick turnaround from landing in Salt Lake city to kickoff. Kickoff had to be moved up but SacAir dealt with it.

"Our theme going into our 2026 season is what we had in our 2025 NAI 7s preparations: 'Grateful for everything, entitled to nothing,'" said SacAir Coach Wayne Koi. "We took that from what Coach Clark emphasizes with the Cal bears."

The game was split into four quarters and the 25 SacAir players, including four freshmen, got to get playing time, and LCA plays also were able to sub liberally. Two tries in the first 15 minutes put SacAir ahead 12-0.

But LCA came back with a nice combination of physical forwards and speed and skill out wide. With a snappy halfback combination "they love playing with the ball in hands and lots of offload play," said Koi. "Our boys stayed in the fight."

Later in the day it began to snow, but SacAir held on for the one-point win.

NO. 8 Wayne Koi, Jr. was outstanding, breaking te line, while flanker Amosa Seagau was a defensive standout.
