Rugby East Sets Fall 2019 Schedule

The Rugby East schedule is set for this fall, with six teams playing each other once each.

The University of Buffalo has left the conference after struggling to win games. UB worked hard to compete but just couldn't quite hang with a group of programs that are varsity or elevated club. Wheeling Jesuit, which has been dealing with some internal issues with regard to athletics on campus in general, also dropped out, but retained some of its fixtures anyway. 

Meanwhile, Mary Washington has moved up from DIAA Chesapeake Conference, where the Mothers were clearly the top dog, to join Rugby East.

What remains is a very tight and competitive conference. Any of the five teams remaining from last year could win it with a little bit of luck, and Mary Washington almost beat Navy last year and willbe expected to challenge in every game. Last season, not every clash between the remaining teams was close. Army beat Penn State 31-0 in perhaps the most claring result, as Penn State was looking to win that game to take the conference.

Penn State beat St. Bonaventure by 35 and Army beat Notre Dame College by 31.

But several other games were very close, notably Army 24 Kutztown 17 on September 29.

Here's the list of conference games plus some non-conference fixtures. Note that some DIAA teams such as Virginia Tech and Dartmouth are seeking competition with Rugby East opposition.
