Rivalry Battle as Charlotte Cardinals Hold Off Charlotte Tigers
The Charlotte Cardinals and Charlotte Tigers battled to a 37-25 Cardinals win Saturday in a bit of classic in North Carolina.
Cardinals Head Coach Jason Zehmke called it a “perfect rivalry game. The score just isn't able to capture the spirit of the game nor that back-and-forth contest.”
For the Tigers, Zachary Cullen led the charge offensively with two impressive tries, while Jameson Beatty and John Teli each added a try of their own. Beatty, the Tigers’ captain, also contributed with a penalty goal and was, overall, the team’s MVP.
For the Cardinals, center Luke Zehmke was very good overall with plenty of yardage gained and a high tackle count. He also scored two tries.
In the forwards, hooker Evan Culicerto was everywhere.
The Tigers hooker, John Teli, was pretty good, too, and lock Xavier Flowe set the tone up front with a high effort game.
“The Charlotte Cardinals showed their class, depth, and exactly why they’re the number one team in the country,” said Tigers Head Coach Jason Paquette. “They capitalized on every Tigers mistake, turning small errors into big moments and making it clear why they sit atop the rankings. Despite the loss, the Tigers demonstrated grit and promise.”
“Both teams knew it was going to be a 70 minute battle,” added Zehmke. “And it delivered.”
