Redhawks Defeat Vienna
The Raleigh Redhawks defeated Vienna in Virginia despite having some players late to the game due to traffic.
In a first meeting with the Vienna varsity squad, the Redhawks scored first and kept it coming. Junior scrumhalf George O’Brien scored a hat-trick in the first half, including two breakaway runs of more than 50 meters. Also scoring for the Redhawks were junior flanker Nate Roeback with two, flyhalf Christian Dickens, fullback Sincere LeCraft, and prop Zyon Johnson.
Johnson was a force inside with key tackles and several strong runs, and LeCraft defended well deep while also breaking powerful runs forward. Senior prop, Koby Baker, together with Roeback, we’re strong in the ruck, and junior Brad Harris played well out of position at hooker. Ryan Swann at flanker and Frank Lewis at no. 8 also had good showings.
Final score: Redhawks 48, Vienna 0.
The varsity match was part of a much larger event that included boys and girls matches from kindergarten through high school. Vienna were gracious hosts, and everyone enjoyed a beautiful day of rugby.
