The Raptors of Tennessee met up with Golden Eagle out of Georgia in Knoxville, Tenn. Saturday, with the Tennessee team taking the game 24-3.

This was the first outing of the season for the Raptors and it showed as both teams struggled to get going on a muddy pitch. A young Golden Eagle had already played Roswell, losing a close one. They have strong numbers but need experience.

The Raptors were slow to start, but had a breakthrough off of Golden Eagle turnovers. Kentucky commit Andrew Ryan dotted down with fellow Kentucky signee Jake Orefice converting for a 7-0 lead.

The remainder of the first half was back-and-forth with Golden Eagle flyhalf Lachie McCormick using his boot to keep the Raptors at bay, and also kicking a penalty goal. Late in the half the Raptors did get a try from newcomer Noah
Stopforth for a 12-3 lead at halftime.

With the Raptor offense sputtering, senior fullback and Life University signee Wyatt Appleton took matters into his own hands returning the second-half kickoff 60 meters for a score. The Raptors closed the scoring through junior Benjamin Eadie with a strong run through the Golden Eagle defense.

Senior Owen Stopforth converted both tries for the final score.

“We had an opportunity to get some new players time on the pitch which we will need this season," said Raptor Coach Peter Tiberio. "You could tell it was our first match but in the end our veterans steered
us to the win."

The Raptors are back on the road next week to face Red Top Rugby in Marietta at Life University ahead of the Life vs Lindenwood match.
