The Men's College DII rankings have seen some big movement of late with the emergence of teams such as Vermont, Villanova, Marquette, East Carolina, and Iowa Centra CC.
This is as competitive a top group as we have had in a few years. Vermont is ranked #1, but defending champs Whitewater (haven't lost in a long, long time), Norwich, Bethel, ICCC, and maybe IUPUI could be considered potential to be ranked here.
Now we're looking at the upcoming playoffs. The Men's D2 Semis and Final will be LIVE on FloRugby. So below are DII games this weekend, and some thoughts on key games:
MARC: The top three teams for the playoffs are basically set - Villanova, Bloomsburg, and Scranton. The battle is between Lehigh and York. Both are 2-2 with two games to go. York is ahead of Lehigh thanks to two more bonus points, but has tougher games left - namely, this weekend hosting Bloomsburg. If York does well in that game (win, tie, two bonus points), then York could make the conference playoffs. The talk remains that MARC deserves more seeds at nationals. We'll see if that happens. Bloomsburg competed very well in 2017 and Rowan did in 2016 (and moved to D1AA).
No Drama: Great Lakes. Bethel beat GVSU and that's about it. Great Midwest - Marquette and UW-Whitewater are on a collision course.
Southern Conference: There's an argument that SoConn has too many seeds (three). Might see them get two. Last week's UNC-Charlotte vs Furman game highlights that things are very tight at the top. Watch out for East Carolina! Playoffs to come and those three could do well.
Midwest: IUPUI can secure 1st against Kent State this weekend - 5-0 plays 4-1.
Cardinals: NC State, Queens, and Virginia are all looking good. All three are teams that could be DI (Queens is a varsity program, but new to it; the other two have been in DI before). Queens vs VMI is a key game.
NEWCRC: Sacred Heart and Coast Guard are both at 3-2. They play this weekend, with the winner being 2nd in Tier 1. Vermont is undefeated and is favored to remain so.
Deep South: Tulane and Spring Hill are both unbeaten and they play this weekend. This is a huge game for a conference that will get one seed to playoffs.
