Player Spotlight: Tom Dixon, The Woodlands
Cal has got another good one coming in next fall as The Woodlands No. 8 Tom Dixon is set to join the Cal Bears.
The High School All American logged ten tries in his team’s first three games, causing all sorts of problems for opposing defenses.
Oddly, it was Dixon’s absence that really revealed his value. On February 29 The Woodlands lost to Germantown in a non-conference game. They played that game without Dixon and Mattox King, who were playing with Eagle Impact Rugby Academy at the LA Invitational. Woodlands lost by three points.
Had those two been on the field, it might have been quite different. As it was, Woodlands lost by three points.
But looking ahead to the rest of the season, Woodlands has a very good shot at winning Texas, and after that they will play in the HS National Championships, and could cause quite the stir there. If they do, one of the reasons will be a No. 8 with all the skills, plenty of intelligence, and even more leadership ability.
