UCLA defeated Arizona State 32-12 in the opening weekend of the PAC Rugby Conference.
Utah also beat Arizona 39-31. Those were the two PAC Conference games this week.
“We’ve got a new look with a lot of new players,” said UCLA Head Coach Scott Stewart. “We have a really nice culture of guys working hard for each other and the new players have improved our depth in some areas.”
The competition for places, said Stewart, has helped the team get better.
Meanwhile, youth was a bit of an issue for Arizona State.
"We've got a young team and we just need to make better decisions," said ASU Head Coach Gary Lane.
This showed itself in the first half, when kickable penalties were passed up in favor of a lineout to go for the try. And with the lineout not operating well, the Sun Devils saw no points from those efforts.
