Utah and UCLA both won in PAC Rugby Conference action Saturday, but it's the Utes now along atop the standings.
UCLA had all sorts of challenges with a tough-minded Arizona team. The Wildcats may be winless, but they battled. UCLA went up 10-0, but Arizona stormed back to get within three at 15-12. UCLA slotted a late penalty to seal it 18-12.
No such drama for Utah, as the Utes hammered Oregon State 72-13. Utah Coach Jon Law said he was, in general, happy withe the performance.
"A lot of minutes were spread around today and we did see some clarity obscured because of that," said Law. "BUt the intensity and effort remained high throughout."
With Cal and Arizona State not playing conference games this weekend, Utah moves to the front of the class. Neither Utah not UCLA have met Cal yet.
