Overseas: Ainu'u Part of Toulouse Romp
It was a relatively quiet Thanksgiving Weekend for USA players overseas, but a few players were in action and some had some good news.
Perhaps the biggest result was Toulouse over Agen. With former Washington state U19 select-side star Davud Ainu'u starting at loosehead prop, Stade Toulousain hammered Agen 63-18 in the French Top 14. Ainu'u, who turned 21 last week, is getting invaluable experience
Montpellier lost 22-23 to Bordeaux-Begles. USA prop Titi Lamositele came on as a sub with 16 minutes to go.
In England, Greg Peterson started at lock for Newcastle as the Falcons beat AJ MacGinty and Sale 15-13 in a somewhat desultory game on Thursday.
And in the Women's Premiership, Kate Zackary was once again very strong at flanker for Exeter and Gabby Cantorna started at center and kicked two conversions, but it wasn't enough as Exeter lost 24-14 to Wasps.
There are other American players around the world playing rugby. Some are full professionals on major clubs, but they aren't listed here because they weren't selected this week. Others are with lower-division clubs that are still coming back from COVID shutdowns. We got an update from Francisco Castro, who played for the Maryland Exiles U19s and then moved on to play in Portugal. A shoulder injury halted his playing but he is now youth coordinator for Sporting Clube de Portugal’s rugby program and also a coach at the Portuguese National Youth Academy. He also does rugby commentary on the Portugal Rugby Federation's steaming channel.
If you have any notes on players you know have gone overseas, let us know.
