One of the more interesting results of the weekend in collegiate rugby was Lindenwood's 41-21 win over Ohio State.

This game was a 34-21 until the final moments, and while it was unlikely at the end that the Buckeyes would pull this out, they were in a position to make it a one-score game.

Both teams came out of the match feeling pretty positive about the experience. Yes, Lindenwood ran out some younger players in this matchup, but it was a tough experience for the Lions.

"Ohio State is physical and has their stuff together," said Lindenwood Head Coach Josh Macy. "They're superlative hosts, too. It was super fun and we got to see what we wanted. It's easy to rest on the laurels of so many awesome players through the years, but the Buckeyes showed a lot of guys what that does to you."

Ohio State Coach Peter Malcolm liked also what he saw, but, he added, Lindenwood exposed some errors.

"I am very proud of the effort but we also feel like we could have been better," said Malcolm. "We had sx freshmen on the bench and really for our first Midwest Conference game, we showed we can compete, which is what we want to do."

For Lindenwood, freshman prop Sam Enochian, who captained Carmichael to such a great season in Northern California last year, had a solid shift. Thomas More transfer Oryx Kirk impressed, while Zack McCartney, back from a suspension and serving as a leader on the day, was physical and led by example.

Ohio State, however, after a loss to Penn State, a win over Michigan State, and a close win over Notre Dame, feel they are making strides.

"We felt pretty good," said scrumhalf Mark French. "We do feel that we could have made it closer, and we had chances. But we definitely come out of this with a confidence boost."

Added captain Seamus Kennedy, "yeah we took a loss but we're really excited to get our first conference game in the Midwest. And we played against a high-powered program like Lindenwood and we showed we can scored against them. There are a lot of positives."

Also in the Midwest, Davenport defeated McKendree 37-10.

Those are the opening results from the conference, which also includes Arkansas State, who beat Loyola of New Orleans. Next up Arkansas State is at McKendree in two weeks and then a week later Lindenwood will face Davenport while Ohio State will be at Arkansas State.
