NorCal Single-School Season Opens
Bishop O'Dowd kicked off the Northern California single-school campaign with a resounding win over Fresno-based San Joaquin Memorial.
No. 8 OC Lehner had a hat trick, while scrumhalf Willem Van Niekerk and fullback Cory Casquiero each scored two tries. Adding to that, center Elliot Lewis logged 17 points with six conversions and a try, and O'Dowd won 52-5.
The opposition named freshman prop Masi Latu and Lewis the two players of the match.
"Early in the season, the team that can execute the fundamentals have the best chance of winning, those basics are all we focused on this week at training," said Bishop O'Dowd Head Coach Leonard Bragg.
Also in NorCal, De La Salle won big over Bellarmine Prep to open their campaign. St. Ignatius of San Francisco is a new program and they battled nicely with St. Francis, and while St. Francis won 25-18.
This was a good showing for Ignatius in their first game.
