NorCal Opens - Danville Wins
The Danville Oaks took a while to get going, but once they got going, they went, as the defending NorCal Premier champs defeated Lamorinda 50-0 in the opening game of the lague season.
Lamorinda's defense held firm for much of the first half, but Danville was patient and after 20 minutes lock Tyler Nunnery went over for the opening try. Center Luke Freeman converted. Then the tries started to flow, as wing Carlos Gomez, scrumhalf Alex MacDonald, fullback Jack Slimm, and center Kevin Saunders all found the tryline. Freeman converted all but one for a 33-0 halftime lead.
In control then, Danville ran on the subs and it seemed to take a while for them to recover their mojo. Flanker Jason Severance scored, but it wasn't until the final couple of minutes that the Oaks added to their tally - wing Christian Bucklin scored two in the space of two minutes and Justin Lego converted one for the 50-0 scoreline.
Program Director Jon Straka said the Danville team defended well, but still gave up too many turnovers. Lamorinda is continuing to grow and improve, and will look to build on the 20 minutes of the first half and the 30-plus minutes of the second when they held Danville to just one try.
Also in NorCal Premier, the Solo Falcons took on Marin in a crossover match and won 42-21. This game, played between teams from two halves of the league, the Premier and the Top 5, does not count in the standings. Also in action, SFGG beat Los Gatos in a Top 5 standings game, 42-17. Ronan Orford, Daniel Hagan, Jack McEwan, and AJ Alston all played well for SFGG.
