San Francisco Golden Gate still leads the Rugby NorCal Club Premier league after a tense win over San Mateo 28-26.

SFGG needed their goalkicking as San Mateo scored right at the end and that try could easily have tied or won the game if the conversions hadn't gone over for the visitors.

In a wild atmosphere these two squads went at it.

"They have some pretty good backs who can step really well," said SFGG Head Coach Tony Wells. "We made the most of our opportunities and when they got into our 22 we defended well."

Coming off a successful tour of New Zealand, SFGG is now 5-0 in league play and this has been a very tight league almost throughout. Of the 15 games played in the NorCal Premier, six have been decided by a try or less, including one tie. Another four have been decided by between eight and 14 points.

This week, Mother Lode beat Marin 29-10 to get their first win of the season.

And Lamorinda won an exciting matchup with Danville 29-17.

The Oaks drew first blood with an unconverted try, from Nicholas Donnelly but Lamorinda responded with center Danny Dunne crashing over and flyhalf Thomas Parrott adding the extras. Hooker Steven Loftesnes scored the next one and Parrott's second conversion made it a 14-5 lead.  Just before the break Jules Prevot's try and Jack Younger's conversion made it a two-point game at 14-12.

The second half opened with a sucker punch when Tanner Gates scored to put Danville up 17-14. But Lamorinda recovered well.

Parrott cut through the Oaks line and popped it to OC Lehner, who finished it off. Lehner would get power through for his second just five minutes later. Parrot's conversion made it a two-score lead, and that's how it ended.

Thomas Parrott and OC Lehner shared Man of the Match honours.

“The Oaks are the Gold Standard for Lamorinda,” said Lamo Head Coach Ray Lehner. “This is a big result for us.”

This was actually Lamorinda's first win in the league, as they had previously tied Granite Bay and lost close ones to San Mateo and also SFGG.

Granite Bay did not have a league game but played Jesuit of Sacramento (who are not playing in the club league now but pursuing an independent schedule). Jesuit looked very good in a 38-15 win. The Marauders have seen a couple of players go down with injury and their backups stepped in nicely in what was their first match in a month and a half.
