The East Coast Rugby Conference (ECRC) kicks off September 11 with the defending champion AIC Yellowjackets taking on 2014-15 Small-College champion New England College.
NEC has moved up to the DIAA ECRC, and will be welcomed with a tough opening game against an AIC team that went 7-1, including 6-0 in conference play and a win over Bowling Green in the ACRC Bowl Series. Their only loss was to Kutztown University.
Aside from AIC’s dominance, the ECRC was a very competitive conference in 2014, with three teams finishing 4-2 - Boston College, Middlebury, and UMass. Meanwhile, NEC isn’t the only addition to the conference. Fairfield, which won the Tri-State Conference in DII, going undefeated, has moved up to DIAA, as well. Fairfield joins UConn as a Connecticut team. The conference is now nine teams in five states - Massachusetts (four teams), Connecticut (2), and one each from New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
AIC remains the favored team, but will face a stern new challenge from NEC, and the three runners-up from 2014 will likewise find some new competition.
The ECRC will finish its season at the ACRC Bowl Series in Charlotte, NC.
