Along with Rugby NY, several other high school rugby competitions are gearing up this weekend.

After a bit of a soft launch, Minnesota sees four games scheduled for Friday (although one game appears to be a forfeit). Albert Lea, Becker, and Eagan have all started well in an eight-team league, although Southside is probably going to struggle to field a full side.

As we reported earlier, Rugby NY is starting in the Met NY area this weekend>>

The Colorado Interscholastic Rugby Association kicks off its inaugural season with five teams: Monarch, Palmer, Regis, Summit (who will play against JV teams), and Valor Christian. The addition of Valor Christian has got a lot of people excited because it is a school with a well-regarded sporting reputation that decided to start a rugby program because of CIRA was formed.

This week, Monarch visits Valor Christian and Palmer at Regis as the league kicks off toward a championship game on June 12.

The SCIRF league, after which the CIRA is modeled, somewhat, also kicks off. The league will run about the same length as CIRA.

And after New Jersey and Connecticut got started last week we are also seeing the addition of Rugby Washington this week. It's a bit of a surprise that Washington managed to get on the field, but they managed, getting some teams into a 10-a-side league where they all meet for a tournament each week, and some other teams into a full 15-a-side league.

So this week Seattle, Kitsap, Kent, and Chuckanut meet in Seattle to play 10s, while Eastside is at Budd Bay and Rainier is at Liberty in 15s. All four of the 15s teams have the potential to be ranked.

They should wrap this league up with their playoffs in mid-June.
