Men's Club Champion Dallas RFC To Be Honored at MLR Game
The 2022 USA Rugby Men's D1 club champion Dallas Reds will be honored by their Major League Rugby counterparts this Saturday.
The Dallas Jackals will recognize the Dallas Rugby Football Club as the new national champs in a ceremony during halftime of the Jackals’ home match against the Utah Warriors. The match kicks off at 7:00 PM at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Dallas RFC was crowned National Champion on May 22, 2022 after beating the Schuylkill River Exiles of Pennsylvania 42-16 in the final in Atlanta, Ga. Dallas RFC’s Division 1 program went 9-1 this season, including beating Belmont Shore Rugby of California in the National semifinals, and ultimately beating Schuylkill River in the Championship.
DRFC was established in 1968 and is the largest rugby club in the DFW Metroplex, regularly averaging over 150 players competing across four Men’s Divisions, a Women’s Division, as well as youth and high school teams. The 2022 Men’s Division 1 title is the first national title in the Club’s history.
This recognition is also a nice way for a Major League Rugby team to give a nod to club rugby, which remains a hugely important part of the game. Players who come out of college or high school, or athletes who want to keep competing after college sports, still need club rugby, and rugby clubs around the nation continue to offer young adults a social circle, a support mechanism, and a way to find jobs and friends in any city.
Meanwhile, strong men's clubs provide a talent pool and a fan base for MLR teams.
