What's the thinking behind it all?
Well, first off, most of the the top 25 won games. A few were idle and the most prominent losing team, Queen's University, Charlotte, lost to D1A Clemson by a try. So really the only changes within that group is when someone does something really, really noticeable. IUPUI and Northern Michigan won impressively against very good opposition. So while you might be thinking "hey, North Dakota State won a game and moved down? How does that work?" Well it works because we felt another team was so impressive as to warrant moving up. NDSU wasn't moved down so much as IUPUI and Northern Michigan were moved up.
Vermont moves up five spots because UVM won another lopsided shutout against a strong opponent - this time Coast Guard. That's not very common, especially in the Northeast, and an indication that maybe UVM has something special brewing.
Quinnipiac moved up after beating a ranked team, and same goes for St. Louis University, and Southern Connecticut. Also moving up is Bentley, which takes the elevator up 11 floors, and could go much higher. Dropping out is SIU because SIU lost in a forfeit, and that's kind of a no-no for us. Replacing them is the US Merchant Marine Academy, which beat Marist behind some excellent work from lock Jared Bennett and prop Roberto Cervantes. Bennett was a thundering ball carrier and Cervantes was huge on defense.
Kings Point just changed coaches and it's a tough adjustment for the players, but they've started well. What's tough for this program is that half the team can sometimes be at sea - literally.
