Marquette HS Keeps Strong Form in Wisconsin
Marquette HS has seen its strong start at the All-Catholic Tournament in St. Louis translate nicely into Wisconsin league play.
The Hilltoppers are now 3-0 after Friday's emphatic 56-0 victory over Middleton.
"One of the best things for our team, and what's working well for us, is that we are a single-school team in a state full of clubs," said Head Coach Colin Dillon, who is also a team and Assistant Dean of Students at the school. "The boys know each other in the classroom, in other extracurriculars, and at rugby. It really shows how they are able to read and adapt to one another during play. They all share the same values, have similar goals, and continually support one another."
There's plenty of experience on this side and the juniors and seniors are coming together nicely, and folding in some new players. Inside center Evan Maier scored five tries against Middleton. But the forwards are making sure those dangerous backs get the ball. No. 8 Jude Ballinger, hooker Sean Hutchinson, and prop Nate Schramm have all excelled.
And of course while Dillon is happy about the team's dedication, in his other role he is not going to want them to neglect their studies.
"Academics are always top priority," the Math teacher said. "[However] it's someone who interacts with them daily in the building, it's great seeing these boys during the school day watching film together, going over gameplans, or just hanging out, strengthening their bonds, always pushing each other and encouraging growth."
Also moving to 3-0 are Northshore Legion and the Green Bay Leprechauns.
The Legion moved to 3-0 after a 40-0 shutout of Oregon. Green Bay defeated rivals the Chargers during the week, but it was a tough one, 17-5, which cost the Leprechauns a bonus point.
