Marin Highlanders On Tour To UK
The Marin Highlanders are on tour in England and Wales, looking to expand some horizons as they go on a trip run by Irish Rugby Tours.
Irish Rugby Tours doesn’t just run tours to Ireland; they take rugby teams o countries all over the world.
“Marin toured Ireland a couple of years ago with IRT and we really got a lot out of it,” said Marin coach and Director of Operations John Vantress. “We wanted to go somewhere different with them and we have a couple of coaches with the team who toured England in 1982 when we were called Redwood.”
That team was the national champion in 1981 and 1982, and the tour helped them keep that success going from one year to the next.
This year, the Highlanders will play three games, against Cheshunt, Walcott in Bath, and Llantwit in Wales.
They will see Harlequins play and also Wales vs France.
“It’s good to play the rugby games and get good competitive games,” said Vantress. “But it’s also just really good for the boys to have this experience. Rugby isn’t a major sport in the US, but on this trip they’ll get to play against and meet with kids who are immersed in rugby. We’re really excited to be on the trip and to work with Irish Rugby Tours. They always do a good job.”
