It’s a wild shakeup in the Mid-American Conference as once more we see several close games, and one or two upsets.

It was almost an upset in the one non-standings game, as Miami out of the South edged Ball State out of the North 28-27. It was the second-straight nailbiter for Miami, but again a game that doesn’t count in the standings.

What did count was Western Michigan’s shocking 33-29 victory over perennial champions the Bowling Green Falcons. Played on a narrow field, the game seemed set for WMU’s forwards to neutralize Bowling Green’s pace. Late in the game Bowling Green was on the WMU line and seemed set to score, but the Western Michigan defense was inspired and held on.

That makes for two wins for WMU and the Broncos lead the North.

In the South, Cincinnati lost yet another close one, this time seeing a late Dayton surge put the Flyers past the Bearcats 36-24.

Ohio has also had its share of close ones, but while Cincinnati has lost theirs, OU won their league game, and Saturday held on for a tie with Louisville 26-26 in what has to be considered something of an upset result for the Cardinals.
