The Kansas City Jr. Blues faced off with St. Martin’s Kingfishers this past weekend in Fort Scott, Kans. and this game ended with a solid win for Kingfishers.
This was really the first big runout for the Junior Blues and with only 22 players available as other sports finish up and 10 making their debut for the club (eight making their rugby debut, period) they were going to be up against it.
Kingfishers has several games under their belt and that was evident in the game.
“They are a polished Kingfisher side,” said KC Head Coach Casey Cummings. “They took advantage of the tackle area and exposed us with tactical kicking and ball movement. A big reason why we took this game on so early in the season was to prepare for Woodlands, who is traveling to KC this weekend, and we asked for a match. We are making it a point to play challenging games early in the season against teams already in mid-season form so we can build towards a strong national championship appearance in May.”
It would be interesting see how these teams match up later in the season.
Kingfishers, however, looked good with wing Sam Egger scoring two tries and flanker Pete McDonald doing the same. Prop Colin Egger, hooker Liam Pluta, and center Will an De Ryt also touched down, with Van De Ryt getting a play-of-the game award in part because of his tactical kicking
